In this dynamic role, the Environmental Engineer I supports the program implementation for the nonhazardous and regulated waste programs for Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, Grand California Hotel, Disneyland Hotel, Pixar Pals Hotel, and offsite locations.  Routine work includes regulatory review and feedback, TSDF audits, maintaining waste profiles, preparing reports for government agencies, and developing internal standards and communication pieces. You will have an advanced understanding of the federal, state, and local solid waste regulatory frameworks and expertise working with internal partners and regulating agencies. 

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position, reporting directly to the Senior Manager- Regulated Waste & Field Operations in Anaheim, CA. No relocation assistance will be provided for this position.

You Will:

Hazardous Waste Management:

  • Monitor DTSC, EPA, and DOT regulatory updates and provide informed recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Support evaluation of end-point disposal facilities through desk audits and documentation reviews.

  • Develop and maintain accurate hazardous waste profiles to support proper classification and disposal.

  • Coordinate and/or deliver Hazardous Waste Handler training for Cast Members to promote safe and compliant practices.

  • Review sampling data to determine waste classifications in alignment with regulatory standards.

  • Prepare, complete, and sign manifests for hazardous waste shipments.

  • Partner with construction teams to coordinate disposal needs for active projects.

Nonhazardous Waste Management:

  • Track and assess CalRecycle regulatory updates, offering guidance to support compliance.

  • Manage compliance reporting and maintain accurate data for internal and external requirements.

  • Create and update nonhazardous waste profiles to ensure proper handling and disposal.

  • Collaborate with construction teams to support nonhazardous waste disposal needs.

Program Support:

  • Develop and maintain internal communication materials (e.g., Team Talks) to keep partners informed and engaged.

You Will Have:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience overseeing hazardous and regulated waste compliance programs in California, ensuring operations meet all state and local requirements.

  • Skilled in environmental sampling and analytical procedures, with the ability to collect, interpret, and communicate results effectively.

  • Deep understanding of hazardous material chemistry, supporting accurate classification, safe handling, and compliance-driven decision-making.

  • Proven experience collaborating with regional, state, and federal agencies, fostering positive relationships and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations.

  • Exceptional communication and partnership skills, with the ability to work confidently and collaboratively across all levels of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience leading hazardous waste, solid waste, and recycling compliance programs, with a strong track record of operational excellence.

  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental compliance, including interpreting regulations and implementing practical solutions.

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and regulatory deliverables simultaneously.

  • Strong working knowledge of CalRecycle regulatory programs, ensuring accurate reporting and compliant waste management practices.

  • Thorough understanding of DTSC requirements, including hazardous waste classification, storage, and disposal standards.

  • Familiarity with the California Medical Waste Management Act, supporting safe and compliant handling of medical waste streams.

  • Knowledge of DOT/PHMSA regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials, including documentation and packaging requirements.

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a CHMM or CHMP certification, demonstrating commitment to professional growth and industry standards.

Required Education: 

  • B.S. Engineering (Civil or Chemical preferred)

Preferred Education: 

  • Master’s degree in a Science, Engineering, or related field

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $79,400.00-$106,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
