The Enterprise Metadata Services (EMS) champions enterprise-wide data for The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) intellectual property (IP) through governance, product, and operations. EMS engages in the complex governance of TWDC data with use cases ranging from business intelligence information (financials, franchise critical metrics), digital asset management, digital supply chain, to personalization.

As a Senior Manager, you will play a key role in leading data standardization activities across multiple systems and domains You will lead a team of information professionals, including the manager of SAP MPM governance, focusing on best governance practices for the CTaM (Characters, Titles and More) program. This role is accountable for the harmonization of data between SAP and CTaM. You will collaborate with stakeholders to drive cross-business and platform-wide data consistency, ensuring seamless integration and functionality. 

This role focuses on leading the enterprise-wide IP data proliferation through the creation and application of data governance guidelines as well as the leading and delegating of governance processes within EMS.  You will help drive the governance of TWDC Enterprise IP and Product data by leading teams of data librarians and delegating governance processes within EMS. This includes promoting adoption of EMS data and developing use cases that support cross-business data standardization, specifically those that drive incremental value for our characters, franchises, and brands. You will play a key role in character and title standardization governance, taxonomy management, and MPM data mapping to ensure the creation and maintenance of standardized, high-quality reference data. This role ensures seamless interoperability between the company’s systems and empowers our businesses to be strategic with data.

This position will report to the Director, Enterprise Data, and will be based in Burbank, California.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the CTaM data governance program, overseeing enterprise concepts such as IP, talent, awards, with a focus on data authoring, cleansing, data enhancement, and guideline development.

  • Work to build data harmonization between SAP and CTaM unique identifiers; the MPM Data Governance lead reports into this role.

  • Develop and maintains TWDC IP data strategy and hierarchies. Engage with stakeholders to gain buy-in through understanding data needs, data integration points, and improve hierarchies based on business use cases. 

  • Drive results in data efficiency, data governance.

  • Support and at times lead system and functionality testing, requirement gathering and other activities to ensure platform operation for governed applications (CTaM, SAP).

  • Work with Product team to support upstream and downstream integrations with CTaM.

  • Partner with technology and business partners to support EMS use cases, within the context of data governance.

  • Intentionally focus on culture, fostering an environment of curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning.

  • Lead and mentor information professionals empowering them to make data decisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience

  • Ability to quickly adapt to evolving business needs and identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation to drive growth and efficiency

  • Data Governance:

    • Experience with data reconciliation, mapping, cleansing, and acceptance. Understands principles and benefits of identity management.

    • Knowledgeable about data structures and taxonomies (taxonomy development and application).

    • Familiarity with testing system functionality improvements and working with product and technology teams.

  • Communication and Collaboration:

    • Ability to communicate broadly with business partners and evangelize enterprise data standards and processes.

    • Experience troubleshooting and accepting data in downstream systems with stakeholders.

    • Thought partner on evolving business needs and adapting data to support changing needs

  • Knowledge and Process Management:

    • Experience in documenting data structures and processes, ensuring documentation is current.

    • Ability to delegate and execute processes across a complex data ecosystem. Identify opportunities for efficiencies in business processes and drive changes.

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills including speaking to executive stakeholders.

  • Proven organizational and time management skills.

  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and accuracy.

  • Commitment to data integrity.

  • Strong process orientation.

  • Project management experience, including project scoping, planning, delegation, and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s of Library and information Science (MILS)

  • Experience with master data management systems and/or data governance

  • Experience with SAP financial processes, particularly Media Product Master (MPM) or other SAP financial metadata

  • Experience with Python

  • Affinity for The Walt Disney Company content and characters

  • Archival or library science knowledge

  • Fosters a culture of open and constructive feedback

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant work experience


The hiring range for this position in California is $143,900 to $169,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
