Position Summary
The Regional Security Associate Manager for the APAC region will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of port and ship security, investigations, and compliance across the region. This role is critical for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, crew, and assets while maintaining compliance with local and international regulations. The Regional Security Associate Manager will work closely with shore-side and shipboard security teams to develop, implement, and enforce security protocols and procedures tailored to the specific risks and operational needs of the APAC region.
The position requires a strong background in security management, investigation processes, and regulatory compliance, combined with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and dynamics of the APAC region. This role is key to maintaining a secure and safe environment on board vessels and within port facilities while coordinating with local authorities and ensuring the smooth execution of security initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Security Oversight:
- Lead and manage the security operations for all DCL ship(s) and port(s) in the APAC region, ensuring all activities align with company policies and local regulations.
- Develop and implement regional security strategies to address specific regional risks and operational challenges, including risk assessments, crisis management plans, and contingency procedures.
Port & Ship Security Management:
- Oversee and enforce port security protocols, ensuring safe embarkation and disembarkation processes for passengers and crew.
- Monitor and ensure the integrity of shipboard security operations, including access control, surveillance systems, and emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and port authorities to maintain a secure environment during port calls and while vessels are docked.
Investigations & Incident Management:
- Lead and manage security investigations across the region, including theft, vandalism, guest incidents, or crew-related matters.
- Collaborate with shipboard security teams and local authorities to investigate security breaches, document findings, and take appropriate action.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, analysis, and recommendations to improve security measures and mitigate future risks.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with international security regulations, including the ISPS Code, SOLAS, CVSSA, and other relevant maritime and local safety regulations.
- Conduct regular security audits and assessments across ships and ports in the APAC region, ensuring adherence to industry standards and company policies.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and ensure that the company’s security protocols are updated accordingly to maintain compliance.
Team Leadership & Training:
- Work with the DCL Security Shoreside Training and Development Manager to lead, mentor, and train shipboard and shore-side security teams, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage security operations.
- Coordinate with HR and training departments to develop security training programs specific to the APAC region’s needs.
- Foster a culture of security awareness across the region, ensuring all employees are familiar with security procedures and emergency protocols.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all security-related matters in the APAC region, communicating with senior leadership, operations teams, and local authorities.
- Build strong relationships with port authorities, law enforcement agencies, and external security vendors to ensure effective collaboration and information sharing.
- Provide regular security reports and updates to senior management, including risk assessments, incident summaries, and compliance status.
Special Projects & Policy:
- Act as Deputy Company security Officer and fulfill the duties of the Company Security Officer in the event the Company Security Officer is unavailable.
- Assist the Director of Security Operations and Emergency Management in the development of security amendments to SMS policy and ships security plan prior to sending to the Company’s Recognized Security Organization for final approval.
- Oversee assigned Security special projects.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Business Administration, or related field. Advanced certifications in security or law enforcement (e.g., Certified Protection Professional (CPP), ISPS training) are preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of security management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing security operations, investigations, and compliance in a maritime or cruise line environment.
- Experience in managing security in the APAC region, with knowledge of regional risks, local security protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Skills:
- Proven ability to manage and lead cross-functional teams in a multicultural and diverse environment.
- Strong investigative skills with experience in handling security incidents and legal compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of maritime security regulations and best practices, including ISPS Code, CVSSA, and SOLAS.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in security management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Other:
- Ability to travel within the APAC region as needed, including overnight stays and extended periods away from home.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, etc.) is an advantage.
- Ability to work in high-pressure situations, make quick decisions, and respond to emergencies effectively.
