ILM’s Studio Talent Group (STG) has an opportunity for a VFX Trainer to join our team! The VFX Trainer is responsible for the design, development, and instruction of training courses for new and current employees in all global studios, with a focus on ILM’s Vancouver studio.
We are looking for a Trainer who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, collaborative approach and passion for extraordinary filmmaking that defines ILM.
What you’ll do
- Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training requirements
- Build, evaluate and maintain technical documentation using Confluence
- Work closely with the Training Coordinators to schedule and set up training
- Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees around the globe
- Customize new starter technical training to meet the needs and goals of each trainee
- Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development, and appropriate department managers and production supervisors
- Partner closely with Talent Management and the Heads of Departments to identify and address gaps in technical ability
- Work on Jedi Academy efforts through developing curriculum and documentation for emerging talent, e.g. apprentices, graduates, interns, etc.
- As needed by production, carry out shotwork in your assigned artist groups

What we’re looking for
- Informed on the latest thinking on training and development methods and techniques
- Skilled at encouraging relationships across time-zones, providing global partners with an excellent level of service
- Experienced with industry-standard 3D software packages (Houdini, Maya, Katana, Nuke) or proprietary equivalent
- Familiar with the G Suite (Gmail, Docs, Drive)
- Knowledge of Linux, shell scripting, Python, and C/C++ (desirable)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation or a related technical field
- A minimum of 8 years production experience in visual effects for film, commercials or television

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$98,700 to C$126,400 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
